http://bit.ly/nGiTKn San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2011 Tennis Round, a website connecting recreational tennis players nationwide, has added a tournament flavor to their player matching services.
Tennis leagues offer participants the opportunity to compete against other players in the area and submit match scores to see how they measure up against local tennis competitors.
"We wanted to attract the more serious and influential players to the site. Usually higher rated tennis players are more accomplished in their game and bring a level of sophistication to each match," said Tennis Round's Chief Creative Officer Nikolay Tchaouchev.
Tennis leagues appeal to more advanced players and push everyone to do better. Though recognition is only virtual, and there are no monetary prizes, the real wins come from trying to play better and learn from more accomplished players.
"Take each rally a little bit more seriously and commit to every shot, that's the experience we want to add with leagues," said Martin Marinov, Tennis Round's Marketing Manager and active league player. "When I play in a tennis league I tend to be more focused on my shot selection and footwork."
Tennis leagues are run in a round robin format, which means each of the 6 players in a division get to play each other in the course of 6 weeks. They play one match per week and report their scores. Half of the matches are played at a player's home court and the rest are travel matches.
The 15 cities participating in Tennis Round's tennis leagues are: San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Austin, TX, New York, NY, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Oakland, CA, New Orleans, LA, Chicago, IL, Tucson, AZ, Philadelphia, PA, San Diego, CA, Washington, DC, Denver, CO, Atlanta, GA.
A large majority of the tennis players using the site are people who have moved for work, school, or internship. Relocation often means leaving the Rolodex of tennis players back home and starting from scratch. Building a new list of players to hit with can take some time.
Tennis Round shows where the nearest tennis courts are and who plays there. Players ping each other and schedule matches and sometimes they play the same day. People use Tennis Round when they go on vacation and want to meet up with players in Santa Barbara, CA or Miami, FL.
In the last 8 months the company has processed over 10,000 match scheduling invitations and responses. All tennis invites are delivered by email and stored online Facebook-style so that players don't have to sift through their email Inbox looking for a previous tennis related message. To spice things up and add a more competitive tone to the recreational tennis scene the company now offers another format for tennis games - tennis leagues.
League registration deadline is Sept 10th, start date is Sept 15th. To register for a league in any of the above cities, follow this link: http://ping.fm/slgJs
