Creating a new indoor soccer option for the Memphis area meant first installing a superior, safe, long lasting, and low-maintenance turf system.
While we found there are numerous turf system providers, we also found that most are either unresponsive or technically insufficient. Perhaps our one indoor field was not the top priority for the suppliers who are in search of the next outdoor super complex. However, our one field was our priority at the time, and we know that it could ultimately lead to more both indoor and outdoor fields which are in our long term plans. This means that developing a relationship with our turf supplier was important. Our turf system was a large investment that would stick with our field for many years.
After speaking with several different suppliers and visiting fields around the region, we were left wanting something better. I was referred to Alex Chan of FES-Surfacing, an Edel Grass representative. Alex took the time to explain the turf industry from an outsider's perspective and question us on our objectives and desires. He neither employed pressure sales tactics nor criticized the others in the game. Rather, he educated us on turf system options and attempted to match our needs with some options.
Alex made multiple trips to our field location and took a hands-on approach to the estimating process ensuring that all installation related questions were answered and technical aspects covered. He did not assume that we were turf experts, and continued to stay in touch to make sure we were comfortable with the estimating process. He gave us multiple different mockup system turf samples, which allowed us to touch and see, so that we could better visualize and get a feel for the surface in action. He also clearly defined the pros and cons of each system. It was then when we saw what we wanted.
After spending too much time chasing other suppliers ultimately to find that most of them were uninformed about their product and/or unable to provide references or prove results, Alex's methods of relationship building were more in line with GreenField's business model. We are now proud owners of an optimal turf system (FES System 40 using Edel Grass? FutureDS) and as players ourselves, we are able to experience for ourselves the joy of playing on a quality system.
